Liberty Bell 7 was burning up. The hatch blew off right before atmospheric reentry. Gus Grissom panicking about what he was going to do in his final moments of life. Iron Man, stationed near the space center with the other avengers, decided to save him. Iron Man flew up, grabbed the capsule, and fired his foot rockets. More powerful than the retrorockets of the capsule, he slowed it down. Liberty Bell 7's parachute was lost, so Iron Man flew it to a navy ship. The avengers and NASA signed the Liberty Bell 7 accords on September 7, 1961.
